Markey D-Mass. , chair of the Senate Environment and Public Works Subcommittee on Clean Air, Climate, and Nuclear Safety, along with U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko D-N.Y. , led 134 lawmakers in sending a letter to Federal Energy Regulatory Committee FERC Chair stanley borraccia man Willie Phillips urging FERC to strengthen and finalize its proposed transmission planning and cost allocation rule.Improved and increased transmission is urgently needed for reliability, affordability, and clean electricity. The Department of Energys National Transmission Needs Study anticipates that transmission capacity will need to double in many regions of the country between now and 2035 if we are to meet clean energy policy goals, even assuming only moderate overall load growth. Billions of dollars in federal clean energy investments from the Inflation Reduction Act and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law cannot be fully leveraged if we do not expand our nations transmission capacity.In their letter to Chair Phillips, the lawmakers wrote,聽 In recent years, we have witnessed numerous examples of grid resilience issues, which have highlighted the inadequacy of the grid to handle changing load stanley us patterns, interconnect new clean energy resources, and respond to increasingly frequent and severe extreme weather events. Starting with his first degree, an Associate of Science in Fire Science earned at Central New Mexico Community College in 2005, Candelaria has continued to advance his knowledge. Another associates degree and two bachelors degrees later, hes currently working on a masters degree in organizational learning and instructional technologies at the University of New Mexico.Candelaria knew he wanted to be a firefighter, but hed never been that big on academics when he started his degree. I know firsthand how a college program can inspire you, Candelaria said. You get started down the road and the first thing you know, youre looking at a career path and youre on your way. Candelaria, a fire captain at Los Alamos County Fire Departments Station One, saw a need to increase training opportunities for Los Alamos firefighters and approached the staff at the University of New Mexico-Los Alamos about starting a program in fire science.
