BANGOR Its a year later due to the pandemic, but the wait didnt dampen the spirits of the Bangor Knights of Columbus Pine Cone Council 114 as it readies to celebrate its 125th聽anniversary with a special Mass on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 4 p.m. at St. Johns Church on York Street. During the pandemic, the council held massive food drives, including a collection of over 5,000 pounds of food on one February morning for local food pantries. SOUTH BERWICK, Maine 鈥?Water safety issues highlighted Tuesdays Town Council meeting.Town Manager Perry Ellsworth said the Maine Department of Environment Protection would issue an order prohibiting drilling water wells in the Hooper Sands Road area due to detection of carbon tetrachloroethylene, a known carcinogen, in the aquifer.The DEP addressed the contamination in the 1990s, but at the Sept. 11 council meeting it was noted a Hooper Sands stanley shop Road homeowner discovered the same contaminant in a new well on their property.
