James Saucier, 60, of Belgrade was arrested in late Januaryon accusations that he sexually assaulted a female jail inmate, according to the Sun Journal. Three counts of gross sexual assault were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. He reportedly asked the victim if he could touch her while she was at his office, located in the basement of the former Kennebec County Courthouse at 95 State St. in Augusta. The woman did not respond to Sauciers question, but reported the confrontation to a jail corrections officer. The woman also reportedly told officials that she went to the office about a week after the initial event and Saucier sexually assaulted her. Oxford County joins York County, which has had a yellow designation for the past three weeks as the southernmost county has seen a number of outbreaks and a spike in coronavirus cases traced to an Aug. 7 wedding in the Katahdin region.The Department of Education on Friday also said it planned to keep close tabs on Androscoggin County and reevaluate weekly whether its safe for schools there to be open full time.Even though 14 of Maines 16 counties are considered green, meaning they have clearance to reopen in person full time, most Maine schools are employing a hybrid model this school year in which students learn remotely part of the w owala eek and attend in person the rest of the week.
